Tiznaos

Through this growing body of work, the artist explores the intricate complexities of identity, navigating the intersections of race, culture, and belonging. Rooted in Dominican social aesthetics, particularly that of the lower classes, it addresses the contradictions and tensions that shape our perceptions of ourselves and others, reflecting the universal struggle for self-expression and acceptance in the face of societal norms and expectations.

Similarly, Tiznaos, Guloya, and Gagá practices provide insight into the complexities of cultural identity, highlighting the syncretic nature of human culture and the power of tradition to shape our sense of belonging. In this way, I challenge preconceived notions and stereotypes, inviting viewers to reconsider their assumptions and biases.
